Ladies 1st XI Report

The ladies 1st XI go into the mid term break having just beaten Southgate 4 v 3 and are now 4th in the South Division1 just 3 points behind the leaders Guildford.

It has been a good start to the season following the 'retirement' of three regular players for various reasons (though one is far too young to retire and should consider playing again) and the team bedding in some new players.

Pre season was tough with some poor results but the first league game against Woking ended with a 2 v 1 victory despite the team suffering from decisions that saw 3 yellow cards and 2 in one game for someone who shall remain nameless . Still the first fines meeting should see Claire Hugo making a major donation!

We then travelled to newly promoted Guildford and suffered the set back of a 4 v 1 loss but bounced straight back the week after by beating Reading 3 v 1.

Last week the team went to highly fancied Havant who had a 100% record until they found the Epsom team defence in stubborn mood and the cry of 'they shall not pass'  meant keeping a clean sheet and indeed we could have knicked it at the death.

Finally this week we played Southgate who were relegated from the National League last season. In a see saw game the 1st XI ran out 4 v 3 winners. This match saw Claire Bond get 2 goals and Sue MacDonald keeping up her record of a goal a game with the exception of Havant.

Word from the captain is that the team has not been at their best but wins are coming. As Mark Lawrenson would say on Match of the Day that if you are winning and not at your best then this is the sign of a good team.

The team now have a league one week break before travelling to Hampstead and Westminster.
