Epsom Goals by Wade Joubert (2), Russell Tebay (2), Mahmood Bhatti, and James Midmer
Trojans are a tough, well-organised side but the hosts had no answer to a superb first half display from Epsom which saw the Surrey side go in 4-1 up at half time. Epsom started the game at a high tempo and rolled forward wave after wave of attack spearheaded by Wade Joubert, who was in inspired form in his favoured drop centre forward role.
It was Joubert who opened the scoring when he slung in a low dragflick off the right post, and the Durban man soon doubled the lead with an improvised finish from another short corner. Trojans were looking rattled in the early stages, and sweeping Epsom moves set up Rob Tong and Brett Hosken to crash shots wide, before player coach Immy Bhatti set up Russell Tebay to deflect home from close range to make the score 3-0.
Epsom seemed to switch off after the third goal and Trojan's forwards siezed on some defensive hesitation to score a well worked goal. Epsom regained their three goal advantage close to half time, with a classy finish from Bhatti, who sashayed through the middle, and then with his back to goal sent both keeper and defenders the wrong way, spun and finished calmly to make it 4-1 at half time.
The second half saw a backlash from Trojans as they threw everything forward to get back into the game. Their more attacking formation intiailly knocked Epsom off their stride, and a misplaced pass from Alex Simmonds' put three Trojans forwards in on goal to make it 4-2 with a good high finish. The game was end to end at this stage and both sides had chances to score the next goal, with Alex Simmonds and Nathan Hutchings coming to Epsom's rescue more than once with some superb tackles.
Fortunately for Epsom it was they who scored the next goal, with James Midmer threading a pass through to the impressive Tebay who scored his second, and Epsom's fifth, with an accurate angled finish. The fifth goal effectively settled the game and Epsom were back in the ascendancy by the close, with Joubert denied a hat-trick only by a superb goal line clearance from the Trojans right back. Joubert then capped a virtuoso display by drifting in from the right to set up Midmer to score from close range. Epsom's 6-2 win keeps them in second place in Surrey / Hampshire Division 1, and skipper Rob Tong said after the games that the side was under no illusions that it will be tough to stay there.
Epsom play another tricky away fixture next week against Oxted 2s.
